HOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR ITEMS
Silk is known as the Queen of all Textiles. It spells elegance, allure, luxury, comfort, strength and durability. The royal fabric has a rich history all over the world and is the symbol of royalty due to its unrivalled qualities such as its feather-soft feel, lustre and classic appearance.
Silk’s natural fibres and isothermal properties make it feel comfortable and cool in the summer and comforted and warm in the winter. As one of the strongest natural textiles in the world, silk is temperature-regulating, anti-bacterial and hypoallergenic, prolonging the time you can wear it without washing.
Silk is a remarkably resilient material and is graded in ‘momme’ to measure the weight of the silk. In general, the tighter the weave the more silk is used and hence the weight and the momme count are higher. The higher the momme count, the better it will withstand wear. During our fabric development process we tested a range of momme counts and our testers found that our 19 momme 100% silk, with a finish unique to Stella Sheriff, was the most comfortable and flattering withstanding different temperatures and climates.
All of our garments are designed by our in-house design team in London and are made to the highest possible standards. We are extremely proud to be able to produce our garments in Hangzhou, China, which is where silk originated and the start of the Silk Road. Before being made available to the public, every single one of our garments undergoes stringent quality control inspection which includes running over 30 different checks and is constantly being developed to uphold the highest of standards.
The complex structure of silk’s delicate textile means that it is important to wash and care for your garments in the correct way. All delicate fabrics have a unique and careful cleaning regime, and such regime is vital to maintaining the longevity and beauty of your Stella Sheriff garments.
CARE GUIDE
We are committed to enhancing the life cycle of our products. Care labels tailored to each of our garments can be found inside each item and on every product page.
We believe that you don’t need to wash your clothes as much as you may think. As a natural fibre with excellent properties, silk can be worn without washing for longer than other fabrics. We recommend hand washing and spot cleaning in order to prolong wear and limit water consumption.

To preserve the life of your Stella Sheriff garment, we recommend hand washing in cool water up to 30oC using a specialist silk detergent
Silk is a natural fibre with excellent properties; you will find that you do not have to wash it as often as other fabrics. In between necessary hand washing, try spot cleaning followed by air drying!
|
Hang your silk garments to air dry and avoid drying in direct sunlight. Never put your Stella Sheriff garment in the tumble dryer.
To sheen the silk and restore lustre, steam or gentle iron on low or medium heat. Remember to turn the garment inside out first.
Silk is best ironed when damp in order to retain the fabrics texture and minimize the effects of the iron’s heat.
|
In general we would avoid machine washing your Stella Sheriff garment as this can be harsh on the fabric and compromise the finish of the silk.
If you are confident in washing delicates this way, we recommend washing your silks in a mesh laundry bag and using a specialist silk detergent.
Please use the ‘delicates’ or ‘hand wash’ cycle and set the temperature to as low as possible (up to a maximum of 30 oC if there are tough marks).
